CAA are delighted to share these fabulous images of the new microbrewery and distillery “Uile-bhest” by the Glen Mhor Hotel and Waterside Restaurant in Inverness.
The new building opened in February of this year and is the first distillery to open in Inverness for 130 years. It features a new Energy Centre, with a one-of-its-kind heat pump district heating system that gathers heat from the River Ness, as well as extensive use of roof-mounted photovoltaics. These renewable sources provide energy for the distillation and brewing processes, as well as the wider campus’s partner businesses, the Riverside Restaurant and Glen Mhor Hotel.
A phased approach has been adopted for the design, which will eventually see increased production and facilities in the coming years. This first phase features a twin gable façade addressing a beer garden courtyard towards the river, with a strong contemporary design presence from Haugh Road on the other side of the urban block. Large areas of glazing allow the production process to be showcased and is particularly visible during the evening, with stills and brewery equipment lit up and on display.
It has been an honour to play a part in rediscovering the rich history and heritage of distilling and brewing in our home town. We look forward to celebrating Uile-bhest’s ongoing success with plenty of locally produced pints and drams. Site visit anyone?
